Blackhawks defeat Edmonton Oilers 5-2

Don’t look now – but the Blackhawks only have nine regular season home games left until the playoffs commence.  Currently, the Hawks are in first place in the Central Division, tied for first place in the Western Conference, and tied for second place in the NHL.

The Hawks beat Edmonton last night 5-2 and swept the four-game season series against the Oilers.  Marian Hossa, Jonathan Toews and Dave Bolland each had a goal and assist.  Niklas Hjalmarsson and Dustin Byfuglien also scored a goal each on Devan Dubnyk.  Cristobal Huet tended the net for the first time in the Hawks’ last six games after avoiding the trade deadline Tuesday.

All six Olympians were honored before the game last night with a standing ovation from the crowd as they lined up on the ice, four donning medals.  Jonathan Toews, Brent Seabrook, and Duncan Keith represented Team Canada and each brought home a gold medal in the very exciting final game against Team USA’s Patrick Kane who scored a silver medal (final score 3-2.)  Marian Hossa and Thomas Kopecky represented Slovakia, who finished 4th.
