Billy Elliot the Musical Announces Final Chicago Performance

Producers announced today that “Billy Elliot the Musical” will be ending its Chicago production this coming January.  The final curtain call is scheduled for Friday, January 15th.

Despite its ten-month run, pulling in about $1 million to $1.1 million per week, it didn’t quite reach “Wicked” heights (Wicked made it 3 1/2 years in a dedicated Chicago production.)  But it still did very well and the Chicago cast  received high accolades from critics.  Chris Jones of the Chicago Tribune called the cast “superb.”

Billy Elliot ticketsSome have  said that the Chicago cast was one of the strongest, if not the strongest, productions of this musical to date.  Since 2005, it has toured in London, Sydney, Melbourne and NYC so it’s had its fair share of talented actors over the years.

If you’ve been waiting to see it, I suggest you go sooner rather than later.  Traditionally, the last few weeks before a big production ends, ticket prices escalate.  Plus, on a more personal note – it’s a fantastic show.  The kids are amazing, the story is heart-wrenching, and the music by Elton John is some of the best I’ve heard in a long time.
