Chicago’s Top 5 Halloween Weekend Concerts

pumpkin-on-white-background-100x98Get dressed up and go to a…concert?  Why not!  Chicago’s a mecca for great Halloween shows, and this year’s no exception.  Check out the top five Halloween weekend concerts of 2010:

5. Shakira @ Allstate Arena – Friday, October 29th 8PM

The Columbian beauty’s booming voice will undoubtably fill the Allstate Arena Friday night when she premieres songs from her new album Sale el Sol/The Sun Comes Out (to be released 10/19). Expect frequent costume changes and rock-solid abs from the bilingual pop diva.

4. Disney Live! Mickey’s Magic Show @ Rosemont Theatre – Friday, October 29th – Sunday, October 31st, Multiple Show Times

Sure, this is not really a “concert” per say…but isn’t Halloween supposed to be for the kids?  So number four goes to the little goblins and princess (no doubt Disney Princesses) in Chicago.  Plus, if you’re looking for a way to tucker them out before you leave for that costume party, Mickey’s your guy.

Young Jeezy - Octoberfest 20103.  Young Jeezy with Special Guest Shawty Lo @ Chicago Theatre – Saturday, October 30th 8PM

Fans of the Grammy-nominated rapper can look forward to a preview of ‘Thug Motivation 103’ at the Chicago Theatre show on Saturday night.  Def Jam sources say that the ‘TM 103’ album, featuring hit single “Lose My Mind,” will be released December 14th.

2. Bob Dylan @ Riviera Theatre – Saturday, October 30th 7:30PM

The legendary singer-songwriter and his band will perform live at the 2,400-person Riviera Theatre for a special Pre-Halloween Party Saturday night.  There will be no opener, but trust me, Bobby D. can hold the floor on his own; in 2004 I saw him in DeKalb on Halloween night.  What a show!  Everyone was dressed up in their festive garb and Dylan made it worth every penny.  A must-attend for classic rock fans.

1. Bassnectar with DJ Spooky, Emancipator @ Aragon Ballroom (moved from the Riviera Theatre) – Saturday, October 30th 9PM – 18+ show

Bassnectar-3Dance party!  Picture 4,500 costumed-fans, awesome lighting & dubstep electronic beats.  Assuming you didn’t cringe at that description, suit up for what is sure to be a wild Halloween celebration!

Otto from described the multi-faceted, multi-faced creature best when he said, “Bassnectar combines sound and force with weight while spanning the spectrum of sonic style, covering every genre imaginable, and smashing it all into a collision of intense, wobbling basslines, hypnotic soundscapes, and pretty much anything that strikes his fancy.”

Packing wall-to-wall shows in every city, Bassnectar has turned into a huge underground phenomenon that must be experienced to truly appreciate.  That’s why it made the #1 slot on the countdown.  Whether it’s your thing or not, this show is guaranteed be a spectacle to the highest degree.

Bassnectar will release its new EP on 10/19 called “Wildstyle.”  The show was originally scheduled at the Riviera Theatre, but has been moved to the bigger Aragon Theatre.  Show is 18+, special guests DJ Spooky and Emancipator will join in the festivities.
