Wrigley Field Marquee Painted ‘Wildcat Purple’ & ESPN College Gameday to Join in Festivities

In honor of this weekend’s Northwestern/Illinois game, the famous red Wrigley Field marquee was painted a brilliant “Wildcat Purple.”  The marquee, which has been red since the mid 1960’s, was the first of many changes to the Clark and Addison intersection near Wrigley Field in preparation for the big game this Saturday, November 20th.

Fans can look forward to a big celebration this weekend, including a free street festival that starts at 10AM and goes until 10PM with food, drinks, face painting, and more.  The festival or “Wildcat Way” will take over Sheffield Avenue between Addison and Waveland and feature live entertainment and a video screen to show the game.  Around noon, the Northwestern team will take the Purple Line El train to the game from their campus in Evanston to the Addison El Stop.  Be there early to watch them make their way down Wildcat Way to enter Wrigley Field.

ESPN’s College GameDay will also be at the Friendly Confines for the first college football game since DePaul played its home games there in 1938.  The Emmy Award-winning program features analysts Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit and Desmond Howard every Saturday morning with their picks and previews of the weekend’s upcoming games.

Other important info:

  • Game starts at 2:30PM CST, gates open at noon.
  • Cubs remote parking lot at Addison and Western (DeVry University parking lot) will be open, parking is $6.00, free shuttle to Wrigley Field runs 2 1/2 hours prior to game time and an hour after game.
  • Sheffield between Addison & Waveland will be closed Friday 11/19 and reopened Sunday 11/21.  Various other street closures and parking restrictions similar to Cubs game days will be in effect.
