The Black Keys Release New Album and Announce Tour

The Road to “The Road”

This week The Black Keys released their seventh studio album titled El Camino (translated “The Road”). It’s their first album since the Grammy award winning Brothers. The rock and roll duo consists of Guitarist/Vocalist Dan Auerbach and Drummer/Producer Patrick Carney. El Camino is now available for download and in stores. If you have never listened to their music it is hard to fathom that the band is only two people. The masterful guitar play of Auerbach combined with the seemingly effortless drumming of Carney go together so perfectly that you are given the illusion of at least a trio if not more. The Black Keys have never demanded nor sought to absorb the spotlight, they simply want to play their music for those who love their sound. Their first studio albums were recorded in basements and factories. One of their albums was recorded in just 14 hours, the other on a 8-track tape recorder from the 1980s. The same sound resonates throughout their career. Bluesy, garage rock that gets your head bobbing and makes you feel like you are at a bar in the bayou jamming along side. Somebody get me a harmonica.

El Camino takes a bit of a different approach than previous albums. Producer Danger Mouse once again teams up with Auerbach and Carney as he did on the Attack & Release album, arguably the album that boosted them high into the rock and roll stratosphere. Whereas Attack & Release stuck with the same bluesy sounds, El Camino is a more of an in your face roller coaster ride that simply says, “We’ve made it and are ready to kick this thing into full throttle.” After numerous listens the albums holds me from beginning to end. For me it has been one of those rare albums that once the first track plays I am in for the long haul every time. This album is flat out fun and well done, I am certain it will be welcomed with open ears to all who give it a listen. You are now able to stream a few tracks from their website and the rest is available on ITunes, or you can download from their website ($14.99).

In honor of their new album The Black Keys have also announced that they will be going on a Euro/North American Tour kicking off in Belgium on January 23rd. They will be hitting many major cities around the world on their three month stint including a March 19th date at the United Center that will be the second to last show on the tour. This marks the first time The Black Keys have announced a tour that will be performed in some of the larger venues in the United States. The Arctic Monkeys will be joining them for the North American leg of the tour as well.
