U.S. Ryder Cup Captain Davis Love III has selected two of his assistant captains this week, Fred Couples and Mike Hulbert.  Davis still has two additional assistant captain selections to make before the action starts Sept. 28th at Medinah Country Club.   He has hinted that these two selections will be current PGA Tour players.   With the way Davis Love III has recently been playing on the tour, not only will he be the captain, but he may be playing in this year’s Ryder Cup as well.   Fred has been a captain in the past, and will surely add his expertise to the pool.  He is well respected and very well liked among his colleagues.   European Captain Jose Maria Olazabal has yet to make his assistant captain selections.

Also in the past week, Davis chose to have the Ryder Cup begin with Foursome matches.  The home captain gets to decide in what order the events take place, presumably giving the home team some sort of home field advantage.  The U.S. needs that home field advantage too, having not won a Ryder Cup since 2008!  All in all it looks like the 2012 Ryder Cup is shaping up to be quite a spectacle to see, so if you haven’t secured your tickets yet, I highly suggest that you do!  The atmosphere in Chicago is sure to be electric with all the big names coming to participate.

In other golf news, the Nationwide Tour, the PGA tour’s proving grounds if you will, has a brand new sponsor.  Effective immediately, the tour will be known as the WEB.COM TOUR.  This tour has served as a good vehicle for brand recognition over the years for such companies as Wachovia, Nationwide, as well as BUY.COM.  WEB.COM is sure to reap the same benefits as the previous tour sposnors, and will hopefully help it move in the right direction.
