Trampled by Turtles

Get To Know: Trampled By Turtles

In 2003, the founding members of Trampled by Turtles came together to form an acoustic side-project to their respective rock bands. The Duluth, Minnesota locals began to teach themselves old folk, bluegrass and fiddle tunes on their way to creating some original songs of their own. In the following months, the group decided they had found their calling – leaving their other bands and concentrating on Trampled by Turtles. Inspired by the likes of Townes Van Zandt, Bob Dylan, Neil Young and the Rolling Stones, the band soon had enough material to begin recording their debut album, Songs from a Ghost Town, which eventually released in late 2004.

The group’s early success allowed them to start touring and continue recording. By mid-2007, Trampled by Turtles had released two more albums. While their early work heavily reflected their influences, they really began to carve out their own sound around the time of their 2008 release Duluth. Since then, the group has only continued to progress – both creatively and commercially. Their last two albums have garnered heavy success on the Billboard charts and they have made several nationally televised appearances.

Outside of the studio, Trampled by Turtles has really made a name for themselves as a great live act. Years of consistent touring and an unmatched energy has earned TBT slots in major music festivals such as Coachella, Lollapalooza and Sasquatch. To kick off 2013, the band has a handful of tour dates here in the states but will head overseas soon after for a summer tour in Europe.

If you’re in Chicago, you’ll have an opportunity to catch Trampled by Turtles at the Vic Theatre on January 24th. Below we’ve selected a few of our favorite tunes by these guys to hopefully get you as excited as we are to see them live later this month.
