White Sox enter crucial home stand

It may still be early but critical times lie ahead for the White Sox this weekend.

The Chicago White Sox next two games will be against the Detroit Tigers and the Kansas City Royals. It just so happens those are the two teams directly ahead of them in the AL Central.

Taking the first two games of the series from the Detroit Tigers, the White Sox now find themselves well within striking distance in the AL Central. Just 2.5 games back from the division leading Tigers, the White Sox will be going for the sweep thursday night. After shelling Justin Verlander the previous night the Sox turn their attention to another CY Young winner, Max Scherzer. The Sox won’t exactly be throwing out a slouch to take on the 21 game winner from last season. Chris Sale, who has yet to pick up a loss, will be taking the rubber in search of his sixth win of the season.

Sensational rookie Jose Abreu has picked up right where he left off following a short stint on the disabled list. The 27 year old Cuban is hitting .323 in the month of June. With home runs in each of his last two games he now sits third in the league with 19 long balls in total. The rookie has shown no signs of slowing down either and should be a shoo-in for the All Star game in a few weeks.

Looking ahead to this weekend, the White Sox welcome the Royals to town for another crucial series. Currently, the Sox find themselves a half game back in the standings from the Royals. In the most important series of the season thus far for the Sox the pitching matchups are follow:

  • Friday: Quinatana (3-6) v. Guthrie (2-6)
  • Saturday: Noesi (2-4) v. Duffy (3-5)
  • Sunday: Riennzo (4-3) v. Shields (7-3)

With the Tigers cooling off from their hot start and the Royals less than a game away can the White Sox take advantage of a great opportunity to jump into contention? For the best seats in the house head to Gold Coast Tickets!
