Soccer back at Soldier!
The world’s game comes to Soldier Field this summer with the CONCACAF Gold Cup and the International Champions Cup. The two different competitions should give fans a little taste of everything in terms of international and club soccer.
Soldier Field is no stranger to Gold Cup games. This year, the competition that decides the king of the CONCACAF region is back in Chicago. Mexico will take on Cuba on July 9th at 6:00 in their first game of the tournament. 12 countries will vie for the title which will be played on July 26th in Philadelphia. The champion of the Gold Cup will have the opportunity to potentially qualify for the FIFA Confederations Cup. The Confederations Cup is a tournament held a year prior to the World Cup in the same city as the World Cup between teams who have won their regional tournaments. Mexico is the all-time leader in Gold Cup wins with nine, but this year’s field is wide open. Head out to Soldier Field on July 9th to see Mexico start their run!
The International Champions Cup immediately follows the Gold Cup this summer. Arguably the biggest name in the sport, Manchester United takes on the French champions, Paris-Saint Germain at Soldier Field Wednesday, July 29th. The club competition spans all over the world and is used by the top teams as a measuring stick before their official seasons begin. With transfer rumors swirling, the final rosters are unavailable as of today, but you are sure to see the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, David Luiz, Wayne Rooney, and new summer signing, Memphis Depay. Manchester United has made it a habit to spend part of their preseason in the United States so don’t be the one who misses out on seeing some of the world’s best players!
